9: Based on a true story

Detailing every aspect of her life, Nikki harshly goes from a well adjusted, successful, unhappily married woman into a broken, tortured, slave for her coworker turned boyfriend.

This heartbreaking tale of her life with a conman, Nikki desperately gives up everything for the manipulative and married, Brad, who turns her life into a living hell through his failed financial deals, sexual misadventures and severe emotional hold on her.

A well written but difficult read, if only for the extremely honest portrayal of a emotionally, physically, and mentally abused woman, E. James does an amazing job at making you feel sorry for the protagonist while wondering how any woman can submit to the way she is being treated. Strongly emotional and frustrating, James makes you re-evaluate every relationship you ever had and makes you questions, “what would I have done for love?”
